Astonishingly beautiful, the Lake District is a vast and unspoilt haven, whether you are of an adventurous appetite or simply enjoy contemplating stunning scenery.

With Bariloche as the main centre, set in the lakeside of Nahuel Huapi, it is great for winter skiing.

The main attraction, however, is the magnificent Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi which surrounds the town and is highly popular with Argentines in January and February.

In the north, prepare to be amazed by the perfectly formed volcano in the Lanin National Park.

For the fit and energetic, you can climb to the summit, or for those who prefer to enjoy heights with their feet firmly on the ground, you can admire the reflection in the waters of Lake Paimun.

The park is covered in snow from May to October.

The best times to visit are in spring (October and November) or autumn (March to mid-May).

San Martin de los Andes is a fantastic base for hiking, biking and lying on beaches. A beautiful, quiet town with a sedate, calm atmosphere - there is as little or as much to do as you like.
